French Exchange with St. Joseph’s in Mur de Bretagne

January 22, 2014

Échange Scolaire, novembre 2013.

Monday November 25th – Friday November 29th 2013.

5.30am marked was an early start for the TY students from Tarbert Comprehensive as we headed off on our “Bus, Plane, Train and Bus”In Mur de Bretagne trip to Mur de Bretagne!!! Though nervous and already a little homesick, a wonderful adventure awaited our 42 TY students and their four teachers….new friends, fun through French and real life with a French family was guaranteed. This was the third year of our “Échange Scolaire” with the students in Quatrième in Mur de Bretagne’s Collège Saint Joseph.

Tarbert Comprehensive visit L’Abbaye de Bon Repos

DSC_0613The Échange is a unique opportunity for our students to experience “la vraie vie française” chez les familles accueillantes (host families) and attend class in Collège Saint Joseph; students spent four nights with their correspondants and are immersed into real French family everyday life! A busy week of activities kept us busy-along with the tour of “L’Abbaye de Bon Repos” in St Gelven; we met with Hervé, a local character who owns a slate quarry. We also visited Vannes, a very beautiful fishing port on the Atlantic coastline. The highlight of theWednesday night Soiree week was the Wednesday night soirée in the school; we were all treated to a very special Breton meal of real crêpes followed by a “disco” for the students!

The benefits of the Échange are numerous and vary from student to student, though all return with a greater appreciation of the French language and a renewed desire to improve their competency in the language. New friendships are forged and plans are already afoot to return to Brittany!! Now we look forward to welcoming the French students and their teachers to Tarbert Comprehensive in March 2014.
