Healthy Eating and Exercise go hand in hand

March 18, 2014

‘Healthy Eating and Exercise go hand in hand for a healthy lifestyle’, this was the theme for our SPHE focus week which was held from March 3rd to March 7th. And what a great week it was. All got involved. Our Parents’ Association requested that we focus on healthy eating and supported the Focus Week by inviting Maxine Browne, a Nutritional Therapist and Chef to talk with the students. Mr. Prendiville spoke of the necessity of healthy eating and the importance of exercise for all students during assemblies. The Home Economics department put on a fantastic display of healthy breakfasts, lunch boxes and snacks. Activities were also very much part of the week. A 500m walk was opened around the school. The fine weather allowed students to take activities outdoors. Hoola hooping and skipping were added to the usual lunch time activities of football, soccer, rugby, basketball and badminton. A 5km run was completed by students and teachers. On the Friday students and staff donned their tracksuits and runners for the day. There was something for everyone. A huge thank you to all involved in organizing and making the week so successful. But, needless to say for the week to have been a real success we have to implement what we have learned. Click on the link below to read some of Maxine’s suggestions and keep up the activities!
