ABOUT THE SUBJECT

Mathematics is a wide ranging subject with many aspects.  Maths can be used to explain and control natural happenings.  It contributes to business, science and defence.  For students it opens doors to careers. Participating fully in the world of the future involves tapping into the power of mathematics. Leaving Certificate Mathematics aims to develop knowledge, skills and understanding needed for continuing education, life and work.

The Junior Certificate course begins with a one year Common Introductory Course which is designed to introduce students to concepts of mathematics while aligning these concepts with the national school studies of the subject.  Students then continue to follow Junior Certificate course at either Higher, Ordinary or Foundation levels.
