About TCS Reading Hub

Welcome to the Tarbert Comprehensive Reading Hub. Here in Tarbert we are dedicated to building a reading culture among our students and in the wider school community. We try to promote reading for pleasure in various ways, including dedicated reading time each week for first years and TY students, and participation in Drop Everything and Read. At the school we have a vibrant and welcoming library, a place where students come to read and to have fun with book based initiatives, including playing games, watching films based on books, and entering 'booky' competitions.

We have book clubs at both Junior and Senior levels where teachers and students meet together to suggest and discuss books they have enjoyed. In the 2016-2017 school year we have devised a Reading Challenge which students can complete individually or with their families. Our aim is to encourage not only reading but conversation about books in the home.  Staff,  students and the wider community have embraced the challenge, with our parents now contributing their favourite 'weekend reads', which you can see in the Parents' Book Bug section of the hub.

The school looks forward to World Book Day every year, when we run events to get everyone involved in reading and writing. This year's events include Spelling Bee, Treasure Hunt, Twitter Tales Writing Competition and an event planned for some of our local primary school students. We encourage everyone to take part, and GET READING.
